So, you want to join FTI Delta? Here’s what happens after you submit your resume.
Submitting your CV is just the first step in your journey to join FTI Delta, but do you know what happens next? After passing the screening process, our Talent Acquisition team will reach out to schedule your case interview—one of the most critical steps in the process. This is where the real preparation begins.
Hearing the phrase “case interview” can be intimidating for some, but like most challenges in life, preparation is the key to overcoming it. To help you navigate this crucial stage, we interviewed our recruiters, Ilenia Lisci and Priyanka Gokul, to gather their expert advice on how to ace the interview process. From pre-interview preparation to post-interview reflections, here’s what you need to know to make a strong impression and increase your chances of success.
Setting the stage for success
When preparing for case interviews, it’s important to go beyond merely memorizing frameworks. While understanding basic frameworks can serve as a foundation, the real focus should be on showcasing your analytical thinking. “Think of it like cooking—it's not just about following a recipe but how you combine the ingredients to create something extraordinary,” says Ilenia. Practicing live cases with peers or utilizing online resources can significantly help you refine your approach and reduce interview-day nerves.
In addition to mastering your case interview skills, staying informed about the industries we serve can give you an edge. "We don’t expect junior candidates to be industry experts but showing that you’ve done your homework on industry trends, key challenges, and recent news can set you apart," says Priyanka. Since some of our cases are industry-related, having a basic understanding of the sector will allow you to engage more effectively in discussions and demonstrate your business acumen.
It is advisable to research FTI Delta to get a better understanding of the company’s culture, types of projects, etc.… this will avoid having a lot of candidates reaching out to our employees. Never underestimate the importance of rest and mental preparation. Like athletes before a big game, being well-rested and clear-headed can make a significant difference in your performance. Consistent practice and reviewing your mistakes will also help you enter the interview with confidence.
The big day has come. Ready to impress?
During the case interview, clarity and structure in communication are essential. It's not just about arriving at the right answer but about demonstrating the logic that leads you there. Taking a moment to structure your thoughts before diving in can be invaluable. Being able to perform basic math quickly and accurately is crucial, as clients expect precision from consultants. Ilenia emphasizes, “The final answer doesn’t always matter as much as the logic to get there. The interviewer is more interested in how you get there, so talk them through every step.”
"Interviews are sales pitches, and you’re the product," says Priyanka. Confidence is key, but it’s important to remain genuine and personable. Take control of the conversation—be in the driving seat by leading the discussion and clearly articulating your thoughts. The more you can demonstrate why you want to work with FTI Delta and how your background aligns with the role, the better.
Active listening plays a critical role in the interview process. It’s not just about talking—pay attention to the interviewer’s cues, as they may offer subtle guidance that can help you steer the conversation in the right direction. Additionally, your appearance and body language, even in virtual settings, can leave a lasting impression, so dress the part. Ilenia mentions “Don’t let nerves get the best of you. You’re already good—that’s why we called you. Just be yourself and focus.” One of the most important things to remember during the interview is to stay calm and collected. If nerves start to creep in, taking a moment to breathe and refocus can help you maintain control and deliver your best performance. The interview is not just a test of your knowledge but also of how well you handle pressure.
Throughout every step of the interview, it's essential to demonstrate your motivation for the opportunity. Be ready to clearly express why you’re passionate about joining FTI Delta. Whether it’s the company’s culture, the projects we undertake, or the career path we offer, genuine enthusiasm can set you apart from other candidates.
And now that this part is over…
After the interview, it's important to reflect on your performance. Understanding what you did well and where there’s room for improvement can significantly enhance your approach for future interviews. Remember, the outcome of the interview is not personal—use it as a learning opportunity rather than a judgment on your capabilities.
The FTI Delta interview process mirrors the types of situations we encounter with our clients every day, but with thorough preparation, effective communication, and the right mindset, you can navigate it successfully. Now that you’re equipped with insider tips, it’s time to take the next step in your career journey.
